FLIGHTS OF FANCY [image of book cover]
and Other Poems

by Hedy Kolborg

Publisher's note:
Hedy Kolborg went to school when Victoria was the recent queen, and Tennyson the current lord. Her meter may not sound like the 20th century, but her message does.

These sample poems may be freely distributed, provided the complete file - including this note, all credits and copyright notices, and attached order form - accompany them. You  may also refer readers to this page.

The Martyr

You took my heart and wrung it dry
And then you left me here to die...
But I am still alive, won't you
Come back and break my heart in two?

A Letter To the Children I Never Had

Dear little children
Who'll never have a chance
To smile upon this earth,
To sing or dance...

Dear little children
Who'll never learn to cry,
Never suffer pain,
Nor grow old and die...

Dear little children
In that land of never,
You won't miss your mother...
But I'll miss you forever.

Kittens

Kittens are soft
As pussy willows,
And use each other
For sofa pillows.

The Housekeeper

Anne wasn't fond of keeping house,
Seldom stayed indoors;
She'd mow the lawn, and dig up weeds,
But hated scrubbing floors.

Anne's dinners were quite sketchy,
Her flower beds supreme;
Her cakes fell in the middle,
But her roses were a dream.

And yet her husband loved
As home from work he trod
To find Anne in the garden
Keeping house for God.
